Plotline’s basic calculator is a free, simple four-function calculator for adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, percentages, squares and square roots, with big keys that work well on phones.
How to use the basic calculator
- Tap the number keys or type with your keyboard.
- Use + − × ÷ and brackets; × and ÷ are done before + and −.
- Use % for percentages, for example 20% × 80 = 16.
- Press = to see and keep the answer, then use ans to keep going.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Type the percentage, the % key, × and the number. For example 20% × 80 = 16.
How do I work out a discount?
Subtract the percentage of the price from the price: for 25% off 800, type 800 − 800 × 25% = 600.
Does the calculator follow the order of operations?
Yes. Multiplication and division are done before addition and subtraction, and brackets are done first: 2 + 3 × 4 = 14 but (2 + 3) × 4 = 20.
Is Plotline free?
Yes. Plotline is completely free, needs no account or sign-up, and has no ads inside the calculators.
Does Plotline work offline and on phones?
Yes. Plotline works in any modern browser on phones, tablets, Chromebooks and computers. You can install it as an app from Chrome or Safari, and after the first visit it also works offline.
